Why am I walking?
To spread awareness and support of Uveitis – an ocular inflammatory disease that currently has no cure and is the third leading cause of blindness in the United States. I never heard of Uveitis until I was diagnosed over two years ago and have since developed retinal vasculitis and macular edema. But I am one of the lucky ones that live in NY and have access to a Uveitis specialist who has put together a great medical team for me. But even with a great medical team, I still have not been able to achieve remission, but I WILL get there! Treatment has not been easy and has taken a toll on my whole body – but I am walking because I can and for those that can’t.
Due to the rareness of Uveitis, specialists are not available everywhere. Some people must travel hours to see a specialist which is not an easy task as this disease requires constant monitoring, treatment and medication adjustments. I can’t even imagine this journey without easy access to my doctors. Awareness and support of ocular immunological diseases like Uveitis are crucial to bring help to those who need.
